In our quest to adapt the “Girls Make The City” initiative to Langa, Cape Town, we embarked on comprehensive research. Armed with meticulously formulated questions, we delved deep, aiming to uncover how to best feminize public spaces in the locality. Globally, there exists a male dominance in public areas, often making them less inviting and occasionally unsafe for girls. Recognizing this, “Girls Make The City” was birthed in Brussels in 2022. Through collaboration with local girls, they sculpted spaces that celebrated inclusivity, creating environments where not just girls, but their families, friends, and neighbours, could feel secure and welcomed.
