In this book, I am going to take you on a journey that I made. From Kaatsheuvel to Cape Town. 12,000 kilometers to the other side of the world. Far from home, friends, and family. But most of all, far from a life and a culture that I knew very well. In which I had been immersed my entire life: the Dutch culture.
It became a journey with an impact that I could not have imagined beforehand. Not only did I meet my wife in Cape Town, but it also opened all sorts of doors in my mind that had been closed before. The journey even created new pathways, or perhaps entire new parts in my brain.
To put it bluntly, it’s a story about a Dutchman who went to South Africa and was shocked by what he saw. But also about the impact that the love and forgiveness of the South Africans can have on someone. What it does when people are open to you as a person. How incredibly happy that makes you. It is a personal story because that is the way I like to tell. The way I want to connect with you.
